The borrower was paying on the original terms on the loan and has never had a modification. The borrower had $1,000 to pay towards this loan earlier this year and wanted to continue to make payments. Unfortunately, the previous servicer required the borrower to completely reinstate the loan and the borrower could not. You can buy this loan, cut the borrowers payment in half down to $165 monthly PI and still make a nearly 20% return. At that payment, it would be HUNDREDS of dollars less per month versus the borrower renting a similar home!
